Perry was born to Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). Her first television roles included two roles in the role of Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) on the ABC sitcom Roseanne as the character played by her mom. Her parents did not allow her to start acting with her parents till she reached an adulthood stage, because they were concerned about the anxiety it could create. Perry states that she did not want to perform in highschool but decided to start playing as a way to make friends at Northwestern University when she switched from Boston University. Perry began her career as an actress in New York after graduation, landing minor role on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Then, homesickness led to Perry come back to California and find work as a stage actress. Perry's mother and I appeared on Broadway as a couple as part of The Other Place, in 2013. Her father Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prizewinning drama Anna Christie together with her in 2015. Perry was in nine episodes of The Family, an ABC thriller The Family in 2016. Her father played her character in her role on the ABC show Scandal. That same year the actress was selected to play a younger character of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a teen character of her mom's. The actress was chosen for the role despite her close familial connection to the character.
