Perry is Perry is a Chicago native who was she was born into Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Her first roles on television included two episodes on the show as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) on the ABC sitcom Roseanne as the character played by her mom. Her parents, however, didn't want her to perform until she turned an adult, fearing the effects of stress. Perry acknowledged that she was not at ease in the stage during high school, but started doing it to meet new people at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Following her graduation, Perry went to New York to search for jobs on television, landing small parts in series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent however, her homesickness led her back to California which is where she discovered acting work. She performed on Broadway with her mother in The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. Perry was in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie and Kevin McKidd. This was performed in the West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry appeared in 9 episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. In 2017, she played a supporting role in ABC's political thriller Scandal that starred her father. Also, she was cast on her role on the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon as a version younger than Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mom. The actress was chosen for the role despite having a close family connection to the character.
