Perry was born in Chicago to the actors Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. She made her first appearances in the television screen as Jackie Harris, a character which was played by her mother in the ABC show Roseanne. However, her parents did not want her to take on acting roles until she was older and worried about the consequences of stress. Perry said that she was nervous to be an actor during high school, but started acting in the theater at Northwestern University as a way to meet new people after she transferred to the university from Boston University. After graduating Perry went in New York to search for jobs on television, landing small parts in series like Law & Order: Criminal Intent however, her homesickness led her back to California which is where she discovered theatre jobs. In 2013, she was a part of The Other Place on Broadway with her mother. She appeared in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie, along with Kevin McKidd. This was staged at West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. In the year 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family. Perry was a regular character in the ABC political drama Scandal that starred her dad. The actress also portrayed her young Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon which was a CBS spin-off of The Big Bang Theory. The role was given to her through audition, regardless of the fact that she is a relative to the role.
