Perry is Perry is a Chicago native who was born to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. On the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as shown in flashback) her mother portrayed Jackie Harris in two of Perry's first TV roles. However, her parents did not let her perform until she turned an adult due to the negative effects that stress could have on their daughter. Perry admitted that she wasn't comfortable acting in high school, but started acting to connect with new people during her time at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. When she graduated, Perry moved to New York to search for jobs on television, landing small parts in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent However, she was stricken by homelessness and brought the actress back to California which is where she discovered theatre work. In 2013, she was a part of The Other Place on Broadway with her mother. In 2015, she was a part of her father and Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Anna Christie on the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry was featured nine times on the ABC film The Family, in 2016. Perry played a prominent role in the ABC political drama Scandal that starred her dad. She played a younger Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon. This spin-off series from CBS's The Big Bang Theory was another younger portrayal of her mother. The role was offered to her by auditioning for an open role despite being connected to this persona.
